Changing Drive Ratio

With the smaller hex key tool, loosen the setscrew in the flyer drive wheel.

Push in on the end of the right side crank arm to move the big wheel away from the flyer drive wheel.

Slide the flyer drive wheel towards the crank (hubwards) to reduce the ratio and obtain a slower speed. Fully inwards is approximately 3.5:1.

Slide the flyer drive wheel towards the flyer (rimwards) increase the ratio and obtain a faster speed. Fully outwards is approximately 10.5:1.

Secure the flyer drive wheel in the desired position by retightening the setscrew.

Do not over tighten or the setscrew will notch the flyer shaft, making it harder to slide the drive wheel on the shaft.

If you find you need a third hand to change speeds, try inserting a thick pencil between the big wheel and frame to hold the wheel away from the flyer drive wheel.
