Fiddleback Maple

Curly or tiger-stripe figure is an undulating wave pattern in quarter-sawn Oregon maple, resembling flames or wave ripples. This wood is often used by luthiers to make the back of stringed instruments, hence "fiddleback" figure, especially when book-matched to highlight the spine of the instrument.

I will sometimes have a "Luthier-grade" version of this veneer, with very bold figure.
